Hacked: Has Your Website Become A Walker?

Hacked: Has Your Website Become A Walker?

“Why does our website seem so sluggish?” A client recently asked.

Much like the slow infected walkers on The Walking Dead, a hacked website can have a dramatically reduced loading speed. I set out to rid their website of it’s Walkers, Rick Grimes style.

First: Always CYA

I started by making a backup of their database. I never skip this step! If something goes wrong, your ass is covered.

Lock It Down

  • CHANGE THE SALT KEY. The SALT key lives in the wp-config.php file. Doing this will log out any users currently logged into the WordPress install on the website. *Zap* Mutha F*ckers!
  • CREATE ALL NEW PASSWORDS. This cannot be stressed enough. There are a number of passwords you will have to change, including the WordPress users, FTP, and the database password. Remove any unnecessary users and/or make sure anyone with administrator privileges should have them.

Our Travel Cooking Interview & The Backpacker Chef Cookbook

Our Travel Cooking Interview & The Backpacker Chef Cookbook

If you know us, you know we LOVE to EAT!

Traveling and eating just go well together. In fact that’s a large part of why we can’t get enough of new places. We’re addicted to experiencing bizarre foods, nostalgic tastes and regional curiosities . However, did you know we enjoy cooking at home too? Our home being the small motorhome kitchen we travel with as well as the kitchen’s of our friends and families.

Seattle. Japon Dog.Fresh Cracklins' in the Bayou
Shrimp Boil with Friends in Florida
Homemade Corndogs with Maria
Sausage at Market
Old favorites in lil' Rhody

Yup, from making espresso to homemade pasta sauces, cheddar biscuits, cookies, drinks and more… we don’t let the tiny size of our mobile kitchen, or not being in our own kitchen even, stop us from cooking up something yummy with our friends and family coast to coast.

Step inside this travel cooking tip sharing interview with author, traveler and chef, Jacqui Treagus, and yours truly- as we chat about travel cooking.

Check out our entertaining interview with Roaming Cooking.com:

READ OUR INTERVIEW: “Cooking in your Motorhome Tip: Wash the Dishes after your Showers!”

I’m quoted on the back cover of the print edition “The Backpacker Chef’ cookbook!

After the interview, Jacqui so enjoyed one of my lines, “handier then a pocket on a shirt…” (admittedly borrowed from my Aunt!) that she quoted me on the back of the print edition of “The Backpacker Chef.”

It will give new cooks more confidence and it will make those of you with some skill over the heat, a better prepared traveling chef.

This travel sized gem is a must have for backpackers, boondockers, campers and motorhome travelers alike.

It’s my pleasure to lend a hand (and a quote) to Jacqui in spreading the word  about this great travel cooking cookbook by being an affiliate.

There are WordPress Security Risks Lurking in Your Disabled Plugins

There are WordPress Security Risks Lurking in Your Disabled Plugins

One of the most overlooked security risks lurking in your WordPress powered website are disabled plugins and themes that you are no longer using.

Here is Why The Risk is Real

The PHP files that make up those plugins and themes are still available for exploit even though they are no longer activated through WordPress. An outdated, deactivated plugin, or theme’s files can be used to run malicious code or serve unwanted ads.

Here is an example of a WordPress Plugins page Continue Reading →

The New iOS7: Its Love At First Sight But, This Couple Is Only Half Committed

Are you an early adopter of new software or the wait and see type?

In this matrimony, we happily represent one of each. Dennis is the early adopter type and me, well, I like to let the kinks shake out a bit before making my move. But just as we thought we had ourselves figured out, in a parallel world, Dennis can’t drive anywhere without mapped directions and I (Jeanette) thrive on getting lost.

Either way, our opposite ends surely attract. Even with the debate of “to download on day one or not,” we can report that having a scout in both camps, for now has its perks. Continue Reading →
